Seven Sisters at the Casino

“La Maison des jeunes l’Entracte”, located a few houses away from Résidence Jésus-Marie in Ste-Martine, is a member of a group of “Maison des jeunes” (Houses for youth) established throughout Quebec. Adults and young adults volunteer their services to help young people ages 12 to 17 with various activities including tutoring and working with composting which is strongly encouraged in Ste-Martine.  As former teachers, we have become involved with this project.  We have also been taking part in the annual Board meeting where the young people play an important active role.

Once a year, some of the Sisters participate in a fund-raising event evening, in other words, a casino night.  Real croupiers, real game tables, lots of poker chips, some money to gamble with and lots of “Black Jack”!   This year seven SNJM’s attended. The festive and noisy evening helped us get to know some of the young people of Ste-Martine, the people of the area and our deputy from the Chamber of Commerce, Mme Claude De Bellefeuille, who always takes part in these activities.

For the second consecutive year, our eldest, Sister Laurette, made it to the final in the “Millionaires Club” and, to her great delight, won 3rd prize, which was $75 in coupons.

This fun-filled evening, lasting from 8-11pm was greatly appreciated by everyone. It was certainly a witness of solidarity with the young people.
