Chemins de vie : Supporting people’s spiritual quest

Based on the conclusions of a reflection, that was conducted in the diocese of Saint-Jean-Longueuil under the title "The Parish of Tomorrow”, the organization Chemins de Vie began its activities in February 2003. This was in response to the need to develop a place which would have as its mission the welcoming and accompaniment of people in their spiritual quest. From the outset, the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary were committed to this initiative. Sr. Denise Riel was a co-founder of the organization and later became its coordinator, a post she held for ten years.

Faithful to its mission since the beginning, Chemins de Vie provides support to those who wish to initiate or continue, in a new way, a process of spiritual search and growth. Chemins de Vie finds its source in Christian spirituality. However, at the same time, the organization is open to welcoming people of all beliefs or religions, without trying to proselytize them.

The mission is marked by attitudes of welcoming, listening and respect, which are necessary in order to foster freedom of speech in the spiritual quest. These conditions enable people to journey at their own pace as they become actively involved in their spiritual journey, in fidelity to their personal call. Chemins de Vie also offers an experience of community for those who wish to pursue this approach with other people and create links of mutual assistance and solidarity.

In February 2018, Chemins de Vie will highlight the 15th anniversary of its foundation. The members of the team already feel challenged to bring a sense of renewal and depth to this event. To this effect, a working group has been mandated to carry out an extensive consultation among members, participants, community organizations and donors in order to shed light on current, unmet needs and to find new paths that are daring and full of meaning. From there, the organization will set out in a new direction, leading it to live out its mission even more deeply rooted in the contemporary reality of today’s society.

Chemins de Vie is a non-profit organization which offers its services free of charge. It is supported by a team of volunteer members who are committed to its mission. Relying on the solidarity of its donor friends, it finds its sources of funding either through voluntary contributions of participants or by donations from individuals, groups and religious communities.

The Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary bring their experience and skills to the organization as volunteers in welcoming, in leading workshops and small faith-sharing groups, and in accompanying individuals. The Community also contributes financially to this project, recognizing that the mission of both organizations focuses on presence to the people they touch.
