Sister Estelle Allie

-

“Do whatever he tells you to do.”  Jn. 2:5

October 31, 2009, Sister Estelle Allie,
her religious name, Hector-Marie,
went home to God at the age of 95.
She had been professed for 71 years.

Born in St-Norbert d’Arthabaska, Victoriaville, Quebec,
She was the 12th of the 14 children of Hector Allie and Marie Baril.

Sister Estelle grew up in a family where vocations to the religious life and to the priesthood flourished.  There were four Oblates of Mary Immaculate, four SNJM’s and one diocesan priest.  In her desire “to be near God”, she followed in the footsteps of her older siblings and entered the postulate at the age of 19.  Unfortunately, due to some health problems, she had to leave.  Several years later, overflowing with gratitude, she re-entered the community.

Sister Estelle, a patient, understanding and sensitive person, was directress of discipline for 11 years. An elementary school teacher for 16 years, she was like a breath of fresh air to her students.  Her journal bears witness to her great love for the Eucharist and for communal prayer.

From the age of 61, she generously and graciously devoted herself to many community services and radiated a love for life.  She was admitted to the infirmary at the age of 89.  She was full of gratitude, loved to chat and receive visitors.  At last “near to God”, her prayer for vocations to the apostolic life, a practice begun in her youth, can now be expressed directly to Jesus and to Mary.
