Associate Dorothy Guha Receives Order of Merit

Recently Dorothy Guha received a diocesan Order of Merit for over 40 years of service at Good Shepherd Parish in the anglophone region of the Saint-Jean-Longueuil diocese.

Her commitments, faithful to the spirit of Mother Marie-Rose, often focus on women and on justice issues, such as water, human trafficking, immigrants and refugees. Education is also an important element in her work with the Catholic Women’s League and Development and Peace

Congratulations, Dorothy! You are a blessing to us as SNJMs, to your parish and to your diocese!

Annually, since 1955, the diocese of Saint-Jean-Longueuil has been recognizing outstanding contributions to the church and to society. On June 9, 2017, at Saint-Jean-l’Évangéliste Cathedral, Bishop Lionel Gendron presided over the celebration, a celebration filled with joy and hope. Thirty-five medals were awarded, either to individuals, couples, families or organizations. How wonderful it was to see and celebrate so many generous people who take their baptismal commitment seriously, as they serve in various ways, such as: being a catechist or warden; sponsoring refugees; offering services as an electrician or spiritual director; helping people break out of their isolation, share their faith, prepare for marriage or celebrate liturgically.

After presenting all the awards, Bishop Gendron reflected on the theme of gift, noting the abundance and diversity of gifts of the award recipients and the fact that each of them is also a gift. He then concluded with a challenge to each of us: to be a gift to the world so that it will be a place of justice, peace, and fullness of life.
