Solidarity and Justice Committee 18.09.10

The Quebec SNJM Solidarity and Justice Committee met at the Congregational House on September 18, 2010 for their 53rd meeting, It had been 10 years since their first meeting.  We were honoured to have our Province Leadership Team join us.

The opening prayer was taken from a text written by Sister Claire Dupuis (refer to the PDF text below) and taken from a sharing with Sister Marguerite Hallé.  After having read this moving text entitled, “16 years with the poor”, we shared what we had gleaned and talked about our own experiences in the area of justice.

Following this the Team members presented us with their priorities:

One of the members of the Province Leadership Team will attend the meetings of the Solidarity and Justice committee and one from our committee will attend the meeting of the Communications Committee.

Sister Claudette Bastien then gave a Power Point presentation of the annual meeting of the SNJM Justice Network that was held in Portland, Oregon in July.  Here is a resume of the wonderful work being done in our Congregation: the fight against poverty, human trafficking of women and children, and the terrible waste of water.  The Congregational Website provides us with further information on this subject.  

Sister Phyllis Douillard led us through a very interesting experience of a “Justice-Café” on the topic: “Water as a human right”.  We also spoke about the “World March for Women” that is to held October 12 to the 17th.  Later on during the year, we will hold a “coffee meeting”.  Information will be presented at the next province gathering.

The next meeting will take place November 13th.
