Sister Réjeanne Venne

"The Master is here and is calling for you”  Jn 11, 28.
January 8, 2011 Sister Réjeanne Venne,
in religion M.-René-du-St-Esprit,
went home to God.
She was 77 years old and had been professed for 56 years.
Born in St-Lin (Ville des Laurentides), Québec, she was the 5th of 6 children
of Léo Venne and Aurore Huneau.

At 19 years of age, after having completed Grade 10 at our SNJM convent in St-Lin, Réjeanne entered our Congregation.  From the time of her religious profession, Sister Renée-du-St-Esprit began to teach music, especially piano, a career which she made her own for 55 years until she felt obliged to stop because of illness with which she was being racked, cancer which she experienced with complete discretion. Her entrance into the infirmary and the rapid death of our sister were a surprise to her sisters, relatives, students and acquaintances!

As much as Sister Réjeanne was present to those around her with affability and dedication, she was also discreet and would avoid large gatherings. Her 51 years of conscientious teaching, both methodical and passionate, in the village where she was born, left her mark as a true educator highly valued by her students and the choirs which she had directed.

In June 2007, the region presented her with the MÉRITAS award: she was its first recipient.  “I want to congratulate and to underline, with all the members of our community, your generous dedication to the young and not-so-young, who, for many years, have shared your benevolence and your love of music”, said the deputy of Rousseau, M. François Legault. In thanking him, Sister Réjeanne left this message: “Parents must allow their children to learn music, to do well and to always try their best.”  This message remains as one that can still be addressed to our society today. Sister Réjeanne dedicated her life to promoting all that was good, in communion with the One who is all Bountiful!
