Celebration of Water

2008 was significant for the SNJM Congregation throughout the world. A corporate stand was taken by the Sisters and associates after an in-depth study of the topic.

On May 10, within a celebration, the Sisters of the Marie-Rose-Durocher Residence renewed the commitment taken in 2008 regarding respect for and promotion of the access to clean water. The same type of meetings will be held in May and June, in eight other places with SNJM groups.

Because clean water is a common right and a public good, we recommit ourselves to this sacred and indispensable resource. Together we are studying the link between water, fracking and the oil sands. We are asking for a moratorium on this mining project which risks depriving a population of its source for clean water.

The right to potable water is the great question of today! We are united to multiple organizations and groups who claim the right of all people to clean water!
