The Web and Social Media

François Gloutnay and Sr. Yolande Dufresne

The Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary in “learning mode”

Trying to tackle and understand the media culture of the 21st century was the challenge which about forty SNJM Sisters – the majority of them retired teachers – were facing. At the Congregation House in Longueuil on November 17, 2012, they participated in a session entitled "Web Writing".

The questions raised were answered by the instructor and communicator François Gloutnay who  clearly explained:

•    The characteristics of the Web
•    The goals and audiences of Websites
•    The components of Web writing

Break time
Working together

François Gloutnay told us that "It has to be written to be READ, to be SEEN, to be ARCHIVED, to be SHARED." This goal depends on a concise style, a carefully prepared layout, and meaningful and clearly-identified pictures.

To this was added how to use hyperlinks, keywords and interaction tools such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.

The wide response as well as the appreciation expressed by the participants witnessed to their willingness to continue this exploration into “Web country”.
