Sister Rachel Brassard

-

“My heart is ready, Oh God, I want to sing. I want to play for you!
Wake-up harp, zither, that I should awaken the dawn! “ Ps 57

January 22, 2009, Sister Rachel Brassard,
her religious name, M.-Pierre-Yvan,
went home to God at the age of 83.
She had been professed for 58 years.

Born in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, the youngest of the girls,
and the tenth of 12 children,
she was the daughter of Arthur Brassard and Béatrice Bourbonnais.

An ardent music lover, Sister Rachel transmitted to her students, young and old, her burning passion for music. She taught her students with rigor, discipline and kindness.  She had great respect for each individual and a zeal for beauty.

After having served for six years, as Provincial Superior for the Maisonneuve Province, where she was known for her listening qualities, her compassion, and simplicity; Sister Rachel returned to Valleyfield where her  “first loves”  were Valleyfield, music and her many contacts.

She was the founder and artistic director of the Vallée-des-Champs Classical Musical Competition. There, she pursued her teaching ministry with serenity and warmth and where she also formed a group of Associates.

Her failing health brought her to the Sainte-Martine Residence and subsequently to the infirmary at Maison Jésus-Marie in Longueuil, Quebec, where she embraced eternal life with her loving Saviour.
