On the Way to WYD-RIO 2013

The preparation of our 18 young pilgrims from Collège Durocher-St-Lambert is intensifying. From April 19th to the 21st, they went through an intensive camp experience where formation and inculturation coincided. Friday: basic Portuguese language classes followed by a “Brazilian” supper organized by Father Jean-Robert Michel.

To help the young people get used to “hearing the language” some invited guests shared in this meal: Sister Jacqueline Aubry and Mrs. Miquelina Silva from the Mission Sector, as well as a Portuguese family from Longueuil.

Saturday morning, a Skype call allowed each one to get acquainted with the family that would welcome them in Sao Paulo for a week, between their stay in Maceo and the World Youth Days in Rio de Janeiro.

This foretaste of Brazil was followed by a time of reflection and discussion so they could get to know each other better and discover the sources of spirituality within themselves.

On Sunday, April 21st, they all gathered for the Liturgy and a time of volunteering in the Co-cathedral St-Antoine-de-Padoue: welcoming parishoners at each Mass, helping out with daycare in the parish hall, helping in the St. Antoine parish boutique, preparing and being of service during the “family cafés”. Everyone who took part in this experience enjoyed sharing with the parishoners as well as with with those young adults who had previously experienced World Youth Day.

Our 14 girls and 4 boys participated in this camp with good humour and enthusiasm.

A few more activities will complete the financing and material preparation between now and June.

We are hoping that the many experiences during the month of July will transform their lives and awaken within them a taste for Christian commitment. We are counting on your prayers.
