Sister Jeannine Larose

-

« The Lord leads the humble, He teaches them to recognize his voice. »  Ps 25

February 24, 2009, Sister Jeannine Larose,
her religious name, Sister Géraldine-Marie
went home to God at the age of 86 years.
She was professed for 63 years.

Born in Verchères, Quebec, the fifth of nine children,
she was the daughter of Louis-Placide Larose and Géraldine Chagnon.

Sister Jeannine, a quiet and reserved woman, spent her life on the South Shore of Montréal, in the diocese of St-Jean-Longueuil.  For 26 years of her religious life, she taught her grade two students with love and kindness.

From 1971 on, and especially during the 15 years that followed, she used her talents as cook and seamstress, with much pleasure and care, at the service of the sisters. She also loved to listen to classical music. Often insecure, she would speak out little and rarely spoke of herself. She needed to be recognized and valued.

One of her friends from that period said: « Jeannine kept house for those of us who ministered outside of the house. During the day, people of the parish would knock at the door and relate their tales and woes to Sister Jeannine who would welcome them and listen discreetly and attentively. »

In 1986, she accepted the job as office administrator for the General Administration of the Congregation. Dressed impeccably, she was soft spoken and ready to assist anyone. She just loved to be helpful.

Because of her poor health, she retired in 2005 to Maison Jésus-Marie in Longueuil, where she dedicated her time to Prayer Ministry. At the moment of her death, Mother Mary whom she greatly loved, must have introduced her to Jesus. A friend expressed Sister Jeannine’s  motto: ‘’ LOVE, PRAY AND SERVE’’, and she added ‘’always discreetly’’.
