Maison Jésus-Marie celebrated a new centenarian on July 12th. Sister Gertrude Charlebois, with family members and Sisters from the house, was treated to a day of festivities that began with a Eucharistic celebration in the chapel.
During the Mass, Sister Beverley Wattling, a member of the Provincial Leadership Team, highlighted the journey of a committed woman who "lived in 27 of our missions throughout Quebec."
She recalled that Sister Gertrude never ceased to learn during her 33 years of teaching and even afterwards. For example, she completed a science degree, obtained a teaching certificate, a bachelor's degree in pedagogy, and a degree in French and in catechesis, as well as a diploma in pastoral theology.
Following her teaching career, she became involved at Paroisse Saint-Vincent-de-Paul (Montreal) and did social work with the poor, mainly at the Escale organization and the socio-cultural community center known as Place Vermeil, for those 50 years and over.
