The Celebration of the Bible

This was a rare occasion: reading the Bible for seven (7) consecutive days and nights! The event took place at the Co-Cathedral of St. Anthony of Padua in Longueuil from September 21 to 27, 2014. Of course, the parishioners had been approached and they happily took part in the event.
People could register to be light bearers in the opening ceremony, readers of the sacred texts or as ministers of hospitality during this spiritual marathon! And obviously there had to be people who would be listeners…

The opening celebration was presided by Most Reverend Lionel Gendron, P.S.S., Bishop of St-Jean-Longueuil. During the entrance procession, 73 people were light bearers to correspond to the 73 books of the Bible which were read during this special time.

SNJM’s, as committed members of the parish, which witnessed the founding of our Congregation in 1843, participated in this celebration of the Word of God. Sisters from the Congregational House were readers or listeners during the many hours of recitation. Others participated with their prayer groups of laypeople who regularly gather at the Congregational House, while another was a reader with a group from the choir of which she is a member. And still others were united in thoughts and prayers.

O God, let your Word be heard in our time!
