Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

This year, during the time of preparation for the Christmas season, Christian communities have been invited to reflect on the question "What then should we do?” – the same question that people in the Gospel asked John the Baptist.

John responded by inviting people to conversion, to a change in attitude and behavior, to a new outlook on life.

The question is still relevant for us today: What then should we do?

• What must we do to fight climate change and save the planet?

• What must we do to achieve a more equitable distribution of natural resources around      the world?

• What must we do so that peace and reconciliation triumph over violence and wars?

• What must we do to combat racism and social discrimination and so foster the appreciation of diversity?

• What must we do to show that Christmas is a celebration of forgiveness and love?

To answer these questions, let us listen to what is deep within our hearts. What are we hearing?

Let’s discuss the questions with others, so that together, we can find answers.

May our Christmas be filled with joy because of all that is beautiful and good around us; may Christmas fill us with hope for a better world.

In the words of Pope Francis, the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary of Quebec offer you the following wish:

May the birth of Christ the Savior renew our hearts, awaken the desire to build a future of greater unity and solidarity,

and bring joy and hope to everyone.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
