Departure of the Sisters from East Angus

This past August 20th and 21st the parishioners of East Angus held special celebrations honoring the last two Holy Names Sisters who have served the people in the area and in the Diocese of Sherbrooke for many years.

During the two Eucharistic celebrations there were many testimonials given in tribute to Sister Lorraine Bouffard and Sister Rachel Bédard who had been an integral part of the parish, indeed, “part of the family”.  Their loving and compassionate presence greatly touched those with whom they worked.

Saturday, August 20th, approximately 70 people attended the Eucharistic celebration presided by Fr. Gérard Bégin, pastor of Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde Parish. In gratitude to the Sisters, the sacristan, Mr. Demers hung a beautiful banner behind the altar and the parishioners presented a monetary gift to the Sisters.

Sunday the 21st, more than 200 people attended the Eucharistic celebration which was presided by Bishop Roger Roy.  Each Sister received a bouquet of roses.
A reception was held after each Mass and many people stayed to chat with the Sisters.

leaving East Angus for Montreal on a rainy day

Witness given by the East Angus Associates

102 years of SNJM presence in East Angus!  These past years, Sr. Lorraine and Sr. Rachel have carried the flame to the present moment.  August 25th they’ll say their final “Good-Byes” to all those who loved them so much. It will be very sad to see them leave for Montreal, but we will never forget these great women, these great women who guided and helped us to grow spiritually. We can never forget their great generosity, their untiring service, their counsel, their love which overflowed into the community and beyond.

Sr. Lorraine and Sr.  Rachel, we offer you our sincere gratitude and wishes and we hope that you get that well-deserved rest.
We love you very much!

August 25th, the skies also wept tears of sadness as the two Sisters left for Montreal. Many were on hand to say their final “Good-Byes” and to wish them well for the future.

The weather reflected the heaviness felt in our hearts.  A little song: “This is only ‘so long for now, we’ll see each other soon’…” “This is only ‘so long for now’…”
