200th Anniversary of the birth of Marie-Rose Durocher – Mass at Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu

Closing of the public celebrations of the bicentennial

Having begun at Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu, the public celebrations ended in the same place on October 16th with a solemn Mass at the Parish of St-Antoine, followed by a delicious sit-down meal at the Community Centre.

In his homily, Bishop François Lapierre, Bishop of the diocese of Saint-Hyacinthe, presented a portrait of Mother  Marie-Rose and summarized in two  points the message which she leaves to us: place all our confidence in God  so as to produce fruit and be creative so as to find answers to the needs of today.

Marie-Rose did much for the evangelization of the poorest, and animated by the FIRE of love, she heralded a new era. She had the courage to found a religious congregation.  AND US?

For her part, Sister Lorraine St-Hilaire,spoke of the present-day "Marie-Roses": In Peru through ministry to prisoners, in Quebec in places where people are searching for meaning in their lives, in the United States through working towards the elimination of illiteracy, and everywhere through participation in Justice and Peace groups, through the arts, in taking a corporate stand on human trafficking and water, and elsewhere...
Thanks to Madame Aline Lacroix, organizer of the celebration, new links have been established. Interdependence was expressed through the organization, the liturgy, the choir, the communication and the joyful presence of the guests.
The fitting words of thanks, as much from the community as from elected officials: Mayor Martin Lévesque and the deputy from Verchères, Mr. Stéphane Bergeron, were marked by pride, gratitude and friendship.
Glory to Marie-Rose Durocher, a woman from among us,
Intercede for us with Jesus and Mary.
Your spirituality, your strength and your courage call out to us
in our daily lives.
The answer depends on us...
