Forced Labour: the hidden face of human trafficking

CATHII invites you to a public lecture on this topic on:

October 3, 2013, at 1:00 p.m.

at 2330 Sherbrooke Street West, Montreal, (Atwater Metro)

Work comprises the invisible face of human trafficking. Yet, the International Labour Organization estimates that close to 21 million people are victims of forced labor, of whom 11,4 million are women and girls and 9,5 millions are men and boys.

In Canada cases of human trafficking for forced labour have come to light in Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia. Migrant workers (men and women) form a vulnerable group at risk of becoming forced labourers. The lecture will provide a better understanding of forced labour and will suggest some concrete actions.

The speakers are:
- Jill Hanley, Associate Professor at the School of Social Service, McGill University and foundress of the Immigrant Workers’ Centre.

- Louise Dionne, coordinator of CATHII

These presentations will be followed by a question period. Please confirm your presence before September 27th by email to

N.B.- This conference will be preceded, in the morning, by the Annual General Meeting of CATHII to which you are also invited. It begins at 9:00 a.m. A panel will present the planned activities for 2013/2014 as well as the priorities for 2013/2014. A report on the 10-year history of the activities of CATHII will also be presented.

Please indicate if you will attend the General Meeting and the lecture, or only the lecture. A contribution of 10$ is requested for the meal if you plan to have lunch with us.
